The Wild Horse Stampede is one of Montana’s most historic and celebrated rodeos, often referred to as the “Granddaddy of Montana Rodeos.” As Montana's oldest rodeo starting in 1915, the Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede is deeply rooted in the rich ranching heritage of northeastern Montana, For over 100 years it has been a cornerstone of the Wolf Point community for generations.
Since its early years, the rodeo was closely associated with the Brookman Rodeo Company, a respected name in rodeo history that helped shape the event and build its reputation. Their involvement played an important role in establishing the quality and tradition the Stampede is still known for today.
Today, the legacy of that history lives on at Marvin Brookman Stadium, named in honor of Marvin Brookman and his contributions to the rodeo and the community. The stadium stands as a lasting tribute to the people and partnerships that helped build the foundation of the Wild Horse Stampede.
What began as a local rodeo has grown into a multi-day celebration that draws visitors from across the region and beyond. While the PRCA and WPRA rodeo events remain at its core, the Stampede now includes parades, community gatherings, live entertainment, and activities for all ages.

Brookman Rodeo Company
Founded by Marvin Brookman in 1936, the Brookman Rodeo Company became one of the most respected names in rodeo through hard work, determination, and a passion for preserving the western way of life. Marvin’s “Born to Buck” breeding program helped produce top-quality bucking stock, including the legendary saddle bronc Brookman’s Velvet, named PRCA Saddle Bronc of the Year in 1980.
Brookman Rodeo played an important role in shaping rodeo across Montana and beyond, supplying stock to rodeos throughout the United States and to nearly every National Finals Rodeo during Marvin’s career. In 2005, Marvin was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Hall of Fame in recognition of his lasting impact on the sport.
Today, the Brookman legacy continues under Dave and Cathy Wieferich, who carry on the “Born to Buck” program and the company’s tradition of producing high-quality bucking stock. Their horses continue to earn recognition at some of the biggest rodeos in the country, including Lunatic Heaven, named the 2025 PRCA Bareback Horse of the Year. Brookman Rodeo was also honored with the 2025 PRCA Polaris Remuda Award, recognizing the outstanding quality of their stock and program.
The legacy of Brookman Rodeo lives on in Wolf Point at Marvin Brookman Stadium and through the continued tradition and spirit of the Wild Horse Stampede.
